A Plan for Letter Exchange Will Build Bridges Between Children in Boston and Haute Feuille.
After co-teaching a 6th grade ESL (English as a Second Language) class together for most of the 2014/15 school year, Edison ESL Teacher, Meredith Busher, and ROHCSI founder, Paula Sylvestre started brainstorming ways to further connect the Edison school community with the children of Haute Feuille. Plans have been made to begin a paper letter exchange in the 2015/2016 school year. Edison ESL students, (some of whom speak French and Creole,) will practice speaking and writing in English and help teach beginning English to children in Haute Feuille, Haiti. One of the challenges for children in
Haute Feuille, in addition to limited access to education, is that there is very little to do. We are excited to offer opportunities for children to engage in conversations, learn, and build friendships with children from other parts of the world.
